I was born and raised in the grassy suburbs of Philadelphia with several dogs and an older brother. When not badgering my parents into getting another dog or swimming in the fishpond, I became quite involved in obsessively making art of any kind. I busied myself with drawing, sculpture, painting, photography, knitting, pseudo taxidermy, creating complicated French desserts and making my own butter. After a brief struggle regarding whether to attend art school or culinary school, I decided to pursue the fine arts at Moore College of Art and Design, receiving my BFA in 2003.
After college I took the opportunity to move constantly for several years bouncing from Philadelphia, to New Zealand, to Boston, to Paris to New York where I've decided to stay at least for the time being.
One of the things that got me into photography was my obsession with collecting things. When I would start getting overwhelmed with the amount of old things collected from dumpsters, antique stores and flea markets piled up around me it was time to compose a picture with it. Things seem somehow easier to let go of when they've had a chance to be documented, both physically and psychologically. Kind of a memento mori I suppose.
When not making photos, I can be found traveling, trapezing, procrastinating and looking up rare medical disorders on the internet.
